CHILDREN’S GUARDIAN FUND RECEIVES $3,000 GRANT FROM SUNCOAST CREDIT UNION TO FUND SUMMER CAMPS

BRADENTON, FL (March 29, 2016) – Children’s Guardian Fund has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to provide summer camps and activities to local children in foster and state care.

Children’s Guardian Fund supports summer camps as an important part of promoting normalcy in the lives of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect and abandonment. There are currently more than 800 children in Manatee County who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Summer camp provides these children a positive experience through which they can gain valuable life skills and make positive connections with other children and adults.

“Our Program Director is looking at various summer camp programs to recommend to the volunteer child advocates,” said Harold “Hal” Hedley, president of Children’s Guardian Fund.  “At the top of her list are summer camp programs that help children cope with difficult family situations such as substance abuse and domestic violence.”

The mission of Suncoast Credit Union Foundation is to promote the education, health and emotional well-being of children in the community through scholarships and contributions to public schools, medical research and development, family support organizations and other charitable programs of direct benefit to children.

“Summer camp is one of the few places where these children get the chance simply to be children,” says Cindy Helton, Executive Director of the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. “It is our foundation’s mission to strengthen communities through supporting initiatives that make them stronger, and giving our future leaders some sense of stability ultimately benefits us all.”
