CHILDREN’S GUARDIAN FUND RECEIVES $3,000 GRANT FROM SUNCOAST CREDIT UNION TO FUND SUMMER CAMPS

BRADENTON, Fla. (April 5, 2017) – Children’s Guardian Fund has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to provide summer camps and activities to local children in foster and state care.

Children’s Guardian Fund supports summer camps as an important part of promoting normalcy in the lives of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect and abandonment. There are currently close to 900 children in Manatee County who are in the care of the state. Summer camp provides these children a positive experience through which they can find healing, gain valuable life skills and make positive connections with other children and adults.

“Camp may sound like a luxury, but when you consider the trauma and loss that these children have suffered, sending them to camp is the least we can do,” said Carol Belmont, president of Children’s Guardian Fund.

The mission of Suncoast Credit Union Foundation is to promote the education, health and emotional well-being of children in the community through scholarships and contributions to public schools, medical research and development, family support organizations and other charitable programs of direct benefit to children.

“Summer camp is one of the few places where these children get the chance simply to be children,” says Cindy Helton, Executive Director of the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. “It is our foundation’s mission to strengthen communities through supporting initiatives that make them stronger. Giving our future leaders some sense of stability ultimately benefits us all.”
